Allegedly, some critics have compared the Danish comedy Klown to The Hangover. Others, as promoted on the Blu-ray cover, call it "the funniest movie of the year." Klown is not like The Hangover nor is it the funniest movie of the year, but the oddly disturbing, politically incorrect and painfully awkward film has just enough cringe-inducing moments to make it worth the journey.

But you have to be open to humor that involves a man accidentally giving his girlfriend's sleeping mother a pearl necklace (if you don't know what that is, you won't like this movie), a middle-aged man trying to have sex with high school girls (if you find that inappropriate, you won't like this movie) and a scene involving a boy's prepubescent penis (you get the drift).

Klown is about an awkward idiot named Frank, who, after inadvertently convincing his pregnant girlfriend that he is not father material, decides to kidnap her 12-year old son and take him on a guy's canoe trip weekend, which his sex-crazed pal Casper officially calls "The Tour de Pussy."

The movie relies on awkward, socially irreverent humor. It's humor that many won't like, and even for those who are in tune with it will agree that Klown is far from consistently funny. And yet, there's something endearing about Frank and Casper's romp that works nonetheless. The actors Frank Hvam and Casper Christensen, who also wrote the film with director Mikkel Nørgaard, have great chemistry together.

Klown isn't perfect. Far from it. And it isn't hilarious. But it has bursts of outrageous moments that will make it appealing to some.
