The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle Review

"Rocky and Bullwinkle" is one of the most popular cartoons of all time, so it was only inevitable that they would eventually get a movie. Who knew that it would snag the likes of Robert DeNiro and Rene Russo...

The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle pit the two unlikely heroes and an FBI agent played by Piper Perabo against Fearless Leader (DeNiro) and his henchmen (Russo and Alexander) as they try to save the world from being hypnotized. There are plenty of political undertones throughout the movie, and thousands of mini satires. But, is it entertaining?

The answer is: moderately. The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle is not hilarious, but it's not completely dull, either. The two cartoon characters (now CGI animated) make fun of each other and throw out enough puns to keep the audience entertained, and DeNiro seems to be having a lot of fun doing the exact opposite of what he used to (being serious). He even spoofs his famous "Are you talking to me?" line.

However, the movie is slow at times and seems to be trying to tackle too much at once. Piper Perabo's character is pretty much pointless, and not very realistic (what kind of FBI Agent is she?). Alexander and Russo are really not that entertaining to watch.

The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle could have been a lot better, a lot funnier, and a lot more focused, but it also could have been a lot worse. I can think of worse ways to spend an hour and a half of my time, but I probably could sit down and watch a couple episodes of the old show and be more pleased.
